The Body Project
The Body Project is a dissonance-based body-acceptance program designed to help women resist cultural pressures to conform to the appearance ideal standard of female beauty and reduce their pursuit of unrealistic bodies. The Body Project is supported by more research than any other body image program and has been found to result in improved body satisfaction and improved mood, reduced use of unhealthy weight-control behaviors, and decreased binge eating and other eating disorder symptoms through the use of a series of verbal, written, and behavioral exercises in which the participants critique the appearance ideal.
This group is for anyone wanting to improve the relationship they have with their own body, and to connect with other amazing women along the way. This is not strictly a therapy group; rather, our hope is to engage in meaningful dialogue about issues surrounding body-image, and to promote greater body-acceptance and body-positivity.
We use an inclusive definition of “woman” and “female” and we welcome trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people who are significantly female-identified of all sizes.
The Body Project is facilitated by Registered Provisional Psychologists Ashley Wanamaker and Carrie Le.
Cost is $125 (includes 4, 90-minute sessions) for women 18+
Please note that The Body Project is not an eating disorder support group or clinical therapeutic intervention for an eating disorder. If you would like to speak with a therapist about eating disorders, please email Ashley Wanamaker at firstname.lastname@example.org
